You have been there and seen that before. Fact is, you might also have felt that before giving up on your glorious bachelor days. In that respect, Deep's (Rahul) commitment phobia doesn't come across as something new. And neither does it spring any surprise that Deep's fear of marriage makes him fall in and out of relationships at the drop of a hat. That marriage is nothing more than an "atmosamorpan" on the part of the guys is further confirmed when Deep meets his one-time macho college mate, who is now reduced to his skeletal frame, thanks to his wife's regular husband bashing. But the twist comes when the protagonist's grandfather (Paran) promises him Rs 50 crore inheritance only if he marries within a stipulated time frame.
What makes an oft-seen story a treat to watch is the Rahul-Priyanka chemistry. Incidentally, Priyanka here is Rupsha, the girl Rahul truly loves and wants to end up with, but fears that things will not be the same once they say 'I do'. Rahul, however, proves that he can play a paisewala baap's bigda hua beta with as much conviction as a garage mechanic, though there are certain sections where he could have fared better. Priyanka gels well as the confident and self-dependent Rupsha, for whom a serious relationship should effortlessly culminate in marriage. Paran Bandopadhyay steals the show as usual as a lovable 'dadu', in the few frames that he is there, while Rajatava delivers the clincher as the marriage registrar.
With some hilarious interludes and a script that doesn't exactly allow the viewer's attention to stray, Shono Mon... could turn out to be an enjoyable watch. But there are portions in the second half, especially, the sequences where Deep goes up to his past girlfriends asking them to marry him, that could have been better edited.
